...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1912, a record-setting winter storm buried much of the
Midwest. Olathe was overwhelmed by 37 inches of snow to
establish what, at the time, was a single winter storm
record for one location in the state of Kansas. Kansas
City was inundated by 25 inches in 24 hours, nearly twice
the amount of any other winter storm in the history of
Kansas City. Kansas City would set two more snowfall
records that winter. The March total of 40.2 inches is a
one month record, and the winter 1911 to 1912 total of 67
inches is a season record.

Georgia. It was an F3 with a track 13 miles long and one
quarter mile wide. The twister first hit an industrial
area, then destroyed two apartment complexes, many
expensive homes and the Governors mansion. The tornado
killed 3, injured 152 and caused $56.5 million damage.
