Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Miami FL
1243 PM EDT Wed Apr 17 2024

...New SHORT TERM, AVIATION, MARINE, BEACHES...

.SHORT TERM...
(Rest of today through Thursday)
Issued at 1208 PM EDT Wed Apr 17 2024

Conditions across South Florida will remain dry and seasonable
through the short term as surface high pressure and stout upper-level
ridging prevail over the region. Breezy easterly winds along the
periphery of the surface high - currently located over the western
Atlantic - will continue to advect low-level moisture over the area
which could result in a few cumulus clouds developing during peak
daytime heating.

A warming trend will continue tomorrow as winds begin to veer to
the east-southeast escorting the warm air from the Caribbean.
There is potential for highs to reach the upper 80s or even 90
across southwest Florida, with east coast temperatures in the low
to mid 80s.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday night through Tuesday)
Issued at 200 AM EDT Wed Apr 17 2024

Upper level ridging will prevail across the Gulf of Mexico and
the Florida peninsula through much of the extended period,
allowing for generally dry and warm conditions to continue.
Near the surface, high pressure will remain over the western Atlantic
through the end of the work week, allowing for continued easterly
flow across the area.

Temperatures will continue to warm through the period, with highs
reaching the lower 90s across much of the interior near the end
of the work week, and approaching the mid 90s during the weekend.
Conditions along the East Coast may remain slightly cooler thanks
to onshore flow, with highs in the mid to upper 80s through
much of the period.

Chances for showers and thunderstorms could return early next
week as a frontal boundary approaches from the southeast US.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1208 PM EDT Wed Apr 17 2024

VFR conditions continue at all TAF sites for the 18Z period. The
easterly winds will reach 10-15 KT, with gusts up to 20-25 KT, as
we move into the afternoon. A brief westerly Gulf breeze is expected
at KAPF from 20Z until around 00Z. Tonight into tomorrow morning,
easterly winds will weaken, with a light breeze up to 10 KT, at
all TAF sites.

&&

.MARINE...
Issued at 1208 PM EDT Wed Apr 17 2024

A moderate to fresh easterly wind flow will continue across
the local waters today as high pressure remains in place over the
Western Atlantic. These winds will slowly subside and become
southeasterly starting on Thursday as the surface high shifts
eastward. Seas across the Atlantic waters will range from 2 to 4
feet today before declining to 2 feet or less by the end of the
week. Meanwhile, seas across the Gulf waters remain at 2 feet or
less.

.BEACHES...
Issued at 1208 PM EDT Wed Apr 17 2024

The risk of rip currents along the Atlantic Coast will remain
high on Wednesday as moderate easterly flow prevails. Conditions
will begin to improve tonight as winds become lighter.
