.SHORT TERM...
(Today and tonight)
Issued at 336 AM CDT Mon Mar 25 2024
Early this morning, the Pacific-based cold front that brought rain
and thunderstorms was sprawled from the Big Country down to the
Edwards Plateau. A few showers and isolated thunderstorms were
located along and ahead of this front, while a ragged mid-level
stratus deck was in place across the region. The cold front should
push eastward as the parent low moves out to the Missouri Valley
later today. This should allow skies to clear out by mid-morning
and temperatures to climb to the low to mid 70s this afternoon.
West winds could be a bit breezy again today, but should remain
below 25 MPH with occasional gusts near 30. The upper-level
trough driving this entire system should also deepen and push a
second, continental-based, cold front into Texas this afternoon
and evening. Weak high-pressure at the surface should build in
behind the front and allow temperatures to fall to the 30s
overnight. Some rural locations in the northern Big Country could
drop to near freezing by sunrise tomorrow morning.

.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday through Sunday)
Issued at 439 AM CDT Mon Mar 25 2024
A large trough will develop across the Plains by the middle part
of next week. Both the GFS and the ECMWF indicated that we will
see the main trough axis move through sometime around Wednesday.
During this time, we may see an isolated rain shower or two based
off the ECMWF. The bulk of the rain appears to favor locations to
the east of our area. As such, rain chances will remain minimal
(20-30%) given the lack of decent coverage across our area and a
lack of model consistency. Regardless of rain chance, for
locations that do see any rainfall, expect only a few one
hundredths of an inch in total. The GFS has minimal rain across
our area, so a lack of confidence in seeing much activity remains
an issue. Otherwise, a warming trend will ensue afterwards for the
end of the week and the weekend. Higher pressure will settle
across the area and warm temperatures and keep dry conditions in
place.
