.APRIL 2018 WAS COOLER THAN NORMAL WITH BELOW NORMAL PRECIPITATION
AT DULUTH MN...

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR APRIL WAS 32.8 DEGREES WHICH WAS 6.8
DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 39.6 DEGREES MAKING THIS THE 5TH COLDEST
APRIL IN STATION HISTORY. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS
71 DEGREES ON THE 30TH. THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE WAS 2 DEGREES ON THE
8TH. TWO DAILY TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE BROKEN FOR THE MONTH. THE
RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE OF 2 DEGREES WAS SET ON THE 8TH. THIS BROKE
THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 5 DEGREES SET IN 1885 AND TIED IN 1972 AND
1974. IN ADDITION, THIS WAS THE 6TH COLDEST LOW TEMPERATURE FOR THE
MONTH OF APRIL. THE RECORD COLDEST HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 26 DEGREES
WAS SET ON THE 15TH. THIS BROKE THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 28 DEGREES
SET IN 1951. SEVEN DAYS HAD AVERAGE TEMPERATURES ABOVE NORMAL.

APRIL 2018 WAS BELOW NORMAL FOR PRECIPITATION WITH A TOTAL OF 1.39
INCHES OF PRECIPITATION RECORDED FOR THE MONTH. THIS WAS 1.04 INCHES
BELOW THE NORMAL OF 2.43 INCHES. THE GREATEST AMOUNT OF
PRECIPITATION IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD OCCURRED ON THE 15TH WHEN 0.63
INCHES WAS RECORDED. AT LEAST A TRACE OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED
ON 14 DAYS. AT LEAST 0.01 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL ON 11 DAYS.
AT LEAST 0.10 INCHES FELL ON 4 DAYS. AT LEAST 0.50 INCHES FELL ON

GREATEST AMOUNT OF SNOWFALL IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD OCCURRED ON THE
15TH TO THE 16TH WHERE 12.9 INCHES OF SNOW WAS RECORDED. ONE DAILY
SNOWFALL RECORD WAS SET FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL. ON THE 15TH 12.7
INCHES OF SNOW WAS RECORDED. THIS BROKE THE RECORD DAILY MAXIMUM
SNOWFALL OF 9.7 INCHES SET IN 1961. IN ADDITION...THE 12.7 INCHES OF
SNOW RECORDED ON THE 15TH BROKE THE RECORD HIGHEST SINGLE DAY
SNOWFALL FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL. THE PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 12.1 INCHES
SET ON APRIL 3RD 2007.

THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED FOR THE MONTH WAS 10.2 MPH. THE WINDIEST DAY
OF THE MONTH WAS ON THE 14TH WITH AN AVERAGE WIND OF 27.7 MPH. THE
HIGHEST SUSTAINED WIND OCCURRED ON THE 14TH WITH A WIND FROM THE
EAST NORTHEAST AT 36 MPH. A PEAK WIND GUST OF 49 MPH WAS RECORDED ON
THE 14TH OUT OF THE EAST NORTHEAST.

THERE WERE 958 HEATING DEGREE DAYS FOR THE MONTH WHICH WAS 196 ABOVE
THE NORMAL OF 762. THIS BROUGHT THE SEASONAL TOTAL TO 9176 WHICH IS

THE OUTLOOK FOR MAY...NORMAL HIGHS START IN THE MID TO UPPER 50S AND
WARM TO THE MID 60S AT THE END OF THE MONTH. NORMAL LOWS FOR THE
MONTH START IN THE MID 30S AND WARM TO THE MID 40S AT THE END OF THE
MONTH. NORMAL PRECIPITATION FOR MAY IS 3.23 INCHES. NORMAL SNOWFALL
FOR MAY IS 0.4 INCHES. THE LATEST CLIMATE PREDICTION CENTER OUTLOOK
INDICATES THAT ODDS ARE TILTED TOWARD ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND
SLIGHTLY TILTED TOWARD ABOVE NORMAL PRECIPITATION.
