Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Glasgow MT
550 AM MDT Thu Mar 21 2024

.DISCUSSION...
Winter Weather Advisory continues for much of the region today
with another round of moderate snow expected through the
afternoon. May need to extend the time on the advisory over the
eastern zones, depending on how soon the heavier snow moves out of
the region. Southwest Phillips county (the Little Rockies) is
another area of concern with snow continuing on the mountain top
through Friday.

The second wave of snow Friday afternoon through Saturday morning
will include kind of a lull or break in the action, but still may
have minor impacts if the snowfall is banded as it was today.

The third, and most impactful wave of snow will move through the
entire region from Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening.
Expect a near-steady east wind of 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to
40 mph. The most-intense snowfall will move east across mainly the
southern zones Saturday night and Sunday. Forecast has been fairly
consistent with the timing and placement of this heavier snow,
with minor run to run variations. The weekend heavy snow combined
with the current snowfall and stronger winds, will likely need a
Winter Storm Warning for a good portion of the areas. Given the
current Advisory and the day 3 to 4 time period will issue a
Winter Storm Watch to provide extra impact for messaging.

By Sunday night, the responsible flow pattern finally becomes
disrupted enough to lessen the snowfall to flurries at best.
Expect a gradual increase in temperatures next week to more
seasonable levels.
