087 FPUS72 KKEY 201901 NOWKEY Short Term Forecast National Weather Service Key West FL 301 PM EDT Mon May 20 2024 FLZ078-GMZ033>035-044-054-055-074-075-202015- Monroe Lower Keys- Gulf waters from East Cape Sable to Chokoloskee 20 to 60 NM out and beyond 5 fathoms- Gulf of Mexico including Dry Tortugas and Rebecca Shoal Channel- Gulf of Mexico from west end of Seven Mile Bridge to Halfmoon Shoal out to 5 Fathoms- Hawk Channel from west end of Seven Mile Bridge to Halfmoon Shoal out to the reef- Straits of Florida from west end of Seven Mile Bridge to south of Halfmoon Shoal out 20 NM- Straits of Florida from Halfmoon Shoal to 20 NM west of Dry Tortugas out 20 NM- Straits of Florida from west end of Seven Mile Bridge to south of Halfmoon Shoal 20 to 60 NM out- Straits of Florida from Halfmoon Shoal to 20 NM west of Dry Tortugas 20 to 60 NM out- Including the Communities of Key West 301 PM EDT Mon May 20 2024 .NOW... Through 4 pm, an outflow boundary continues to extend from the the Dry Tortugas south to northern Cuba, moving west to southwest at near 10 knots. This boundary continues to cause waxing and waning isolated showers and thunderstorms, including the Dry Tortugas. Mariners encountering the stronger portions of this activity can expect pockets of moderate to heavy rainfall reducing visibilities to lower than 1 mile, wind gusts up to near 30 knots, and frequent lightning strikes. For the Lower Keys, a couple isolated showers may produce a few additional hundreths of an inch of rainfall. The more vigorous activity will continue to be covered with Special Marine Warnings. $$ FLZ076-077-GMZ031-032-042-043-052-053-072-073-202015- Monroe Upper Keys-Monroe Middle Keys- Florida Bay including Barnes Sound, Blackwater Sound, and Buttonwood Sound- Bayside and Gulf side from Craig Key to west end of Seven Mile Bridge-Hawk Channel from Ocean Reef to Craig Key out to the reef- Hawk Channel from Craig Key to west end of Seven Mile Bridge out to the reef-Straits of Florida from Ocean Reef to Craig Key out 20 NM- Straits of Florida from Craig Key to west end of Seven Mile Bridge out 20 NM- Straits of Florida from Ocean Reef to Craig Key 20 to 60 NM out- Straits of Florida from Craig Key to west end of Seven Mile Bridge 20 to 60 NM out- Including the Communities of Key Largo and Marathon 301 PM EDT Mon May 20 2024 .NOW... Through 4 pm, stratiform rain is expected to continue for the next hour, mainly across the Straits of Florida south of the Middle Keys with isolated rain showers for the Island Chain and nearshore waters north of the Chain. These showers and stratiform rain will be capable of reducing visibility to around 6 miles at times. On land, expect an additional few hundreths of an inch of rainfall. $$ MJV
