National Weather Service Aberdeen SD
313 PM CDT Wed Apr 24 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Winds will remain elevated into Thursday morning, with relative
humidity recoveries of around 60 to 70 percent. Wind will increase
out of the south on Thursday around 20 to 30 mph with gusts nearing
45 mph over mainly north central South Dakota and the Prairie Coteau
area of northeastern South Dakota. Expect increased moisture through
the day, with relative humidity bottoming out 30 to 50 percent. The
lowest readings will be over west central Minnesota.

Low pressure over eastern Colorado Thursday afternoon will push
across Nebraska during the day Friday, and cross far southeastern
South Dakota into southern Minnesota Friday night into Saturday. An
additional wave of low pressure will take a similar but more
southeasterly track, Saturday night into Sunday night. This will
bring a couple of rounds of showers and even some lightning. The
first round will be Thursday afternoon into early Saturday, with the
second round will be on Sunday. There is a 40 to 75 percent chance of
receiving a half inch of rain or more by Saturday morning.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Thursday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the moderate category.
