Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX
310 PM CDT Mon Apr 22 2024

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, MARINE...

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Tuesday Night)
Issued at 310 PM CDT Mon Apr 22 2024

Hope you like fair weather, because that`s about all there is to
talk about in this portion of the forecast. High pressure over the
region is drifting eastward, while zonal...ish flow carries on
aloft. There are some ripples in the stream in the upper flow, but
with their relatively low amplitude and general lack of moisture
available, these aren`t likely to do much more than modulate the
amount of cloud cover across Southeast Texas. It`s a little
different over the Gulf where there`s more ample moisture in the
column, but today`s showers off of Matagorda Bay are still likely as
exciting as it gets through tomorrow night.

Beyond talking about clouds and rain chances (or lack thereof), we
could try to talk about temperatures, but even these are pretty
straightforward. This afternoon`s highs should pick up a few degrees
on yesterday, and though we start to see winds turn onshore with the
high moving off, tonight still looks relatively cool. Lows range
from the upper 40s off towards the Piney Woods, in the lower 50s for
most of the rest of inland Southeast Texas, with temps getting hung
up around/above 60 degrees on the Gulf Coast. Just a few degrees
warmer than last night, and still 5-10 degrees below seasonal
averages. We`ll speed things up a little more tomorrow as onshore
flow becomes more firmly established. Expect highs to be closer to
80 than 70, and little to none of the area falling below 60 degrees
tomorrow night.

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday through next Sunday)
Issued at 310 PM CDT Mon Apr 22 2024

Partly in response to increasing/strengthening south to southeast winds,
warming temperatures are still expected across the area throughout this
period (highs in the 80s each day and lows mainly in the 70s). Generally
expecting partly cloudy skies during the days and mostly cloudy skies
during the nights. Heading into the end of the week and over the weekend,
ridging aloft will move eastward, and the developing southwest flow
aloft will allow for weak impulses/disturbances to move across the state
and bring low rain chances (really on the low side) for mainly our far
northwestern and northern counties.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAF Issuance)
Issued at 1238 PM CDT Mon Apr 22 2024

Focus for this TAF cycle remains on winds, as light,
northeasterlies this morning are veering through easterly on their
way to south/southeasterly. A smattering of Gulf clouds may push
to LBX and GLS this afternoon, but only scraps of high clouds for
most sites. After a period of light, VRB winds overnight, onshore
winds to around 10 knots return late tomorrow morning.

&&

.MARINE...
Issued at 310 PM CDT Mon Apr 22 2024

Decreasing east winds will become southeast this evening. This onshore
flow will strengthen and waves will increase toward the end of the week
and on into the weekend as the pressure gradient tightens. Caution flags
and advisories will be needed.
