FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UPPER MICHIGAN
National Weather Service Marquette MI
523 AM EDT Mon Apr 15 2024

...ELEVATED WILDFIRE POTENTIAL ACROSS MUCH OF UPPER MICHIGAN
TUESDAY...

.DISCUSSION: Ridging aloft with high pressure over Hudson Bay will
cause mostly clear skies and high temperatures mainly in the 50s and
low 60s today. As dry low-levels mix today, RHs could fall to the low
20s percent range along the MI/WI state line with 30s and 40s percent
minimum RHs elsewhere. Winds will be mainly light this morning, giving
way to northwesterly winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph in
the afternoon, though winds along the MI/WI line will remain lower,
keeping fire weather concerns lower today. Widesread winds become
light once again overnight. Tuesday, as high pressure remains over
northern Ontario, a deep low pressure over Nebraska will push towards
the Upper Great Lakes, causing dry easterly and northeasterly flow to
increase to 15 to 25 mph with gusts over 30 mph. Some high and
midlevel clouds will stream in through the day, but RHs are still
expected to fall to 20 to 30 percent across much of Upper Michigan
with some upper teens RHs possible along the MI/WI line. These
conditions will not last long as widespread soaking rain arrives
Tuesday night as the low pressure tracks across the UP in the midweek.
