220 FXZS60 NSTU 250125 AFDPPG Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pago Pago AS 225 PM SST Wed Apr 24 2024 .DISCUSSION... An elongated and strong high pressure system centered near New Zealand continues to migrate eastward as it produces an easterly flow over the area. A boundary layer associated with the aforementioned high pressure will likely move closer to the islands, increasing the potential for showers across the territory compared to the last 24 to 36 hours. Upper air observations (RAOB) from this afternoon (25/00Z) shows an unstable atmosphere over the area. The RAOB further supports the latest conditions shown on the satellite imagery. Thus, expect scattered showers with a moderate easterly flow for tonight through the short-term forecast period. Once the high pressure system exits the region to the east, a moderate to fresh easterly flow will persist throughout the forecast period. Expect numerous showers, heavy at times with embedded thunderstorms and consistent easterly flow for the new week. && .Marine... Serene and calm conditions was observed throughout the day. These conditions will remain across the coastal waters through tonight, as seas of 4 to 6 feet lingers. Model data show seas slightly building to 5 to 7 feet by Thursday morning through the rest of the forecast period. Although these heights are below advisory thresholds for small crafts and high surfs, model solutions are showing a trough to the far east and north, moving westward, possibly producing gusty winds and thunderstorms for the weekend through the end of the forecast period. Thunderstorms have the potential to elevate seas and winds nearby. && .PPG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... NONE && $$ JTAllen
