Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tucson AZ
231 AM MST Fri Apr 12 2024

.SYNOPSIS...Warm and dry across Southeast Arizona with
temperatures several degrees above average through the weekend
before cooling early next week. A weak and dry weather system
passing through the region Friday will result in gusty south to
southwest winds. Thereafter, expect afternoon breezes each day
into next week.

&&

.DISCUSSION...A strong low will dig off the west coast over the
next 24 hours before pushing through the Great Basin region north
of us over the weekend into early next week. An initial impulse
will bring breezy to locally windy conditions today, but rain
chances will be limited this far south. The main story will be
winds, especially today and Monday.

We`ll see temperatures remain above average through the weekend
before cooler air filters in under the main system as it passes
north Monday.

Strong high pressure will build in from the west by the middle of
the new week, with temperatures pushed back to several degrees
above average.

&&

.AVIATION...Valid through 13/12Z. SKC across a majority of SE
Arizona, with SCT-BKN around 20-25k ft AGL near the International
Border. SFC winds less than 10 kts this morning. After 12/16z,
SFC winds will be southerly and increase to 12 to 20 knots with
gusts up to 30 kts, then diminishing and becoming southwesterly
after 13/02Z. Aviation discussion not updated for TAF amendments.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...Warm and dry across Southeast Arizona with above
normal readings into this weekend. Minimum relative humidity 8 to 16
percent in valleys through Sunday. Gusty winds today into early
next week as a couple of dry system move through the region to the
north. Some areas could see brief critical to near critical fire
weather conditions today, but fire danger and ERCs are still low
for this time of year.
