...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED ACROSS PORTIONS OF
PUERTO RICO AND SMALLER ISLANDS TODAY...

A Fire Danger Statement remains in effect for portions of the
southern coastal plains and hills, eastern and northern coastal
plains of Puerto Rico, and the smaller islands due to favorable
conditions for rapid fire dispersion. Breezy easterly wind flow will
persist today over a dry air mass across the region. Sustained
easterly winds between 15 and 20 mph, with frequent gusts up to 30
mph, combined with minimum relative humidity values falling into the
upper 40s to lower 50s, will favor the rapid spread of any fires
that develop.

Persistent rainfall deficits, critically dry fuels, KBDI values
exceeding 700, and ongoing vegetation stress continue across much of
Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Although isolated afternoon
showers may develop over western Puerto Rico, little to no rainfall
is expected across the areas covered by this statement, and no
meaningful improvement in fuel conditions is anticipated. Any
wildfire could spread rapidly where strong winds, low relative
humidity, and dry fuels overlap. Residents are urged to avoid
outdoor burning and any activity that could produce sparks or open
flames.

Fire and emergency officials should be aware that weather
conditions are becoming more conducive for the ignition and spread
of wildfires.

Fire danger statements are issued when fire weather conditions
are approaching, but not meeting or exceeding, Red Flag Warning
criteria.
