...River Statement For The Alabama River...


The Alabama River at Montgomery.
* At 7:30 PM CDT Tuesday the stage was 30.8 feet.
* Action stage is 26.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 35.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river is expected to fall below action stage Friday
  morning though the forecast could be revised upward depending on
  rainfall Friday through the weekend.
* Impact...At 26.0 feet...Some flooding of low lying areas and
  secondary roads begins in the Montgomery area. Flooding of the
  golf course at Maxwell Air Force Base and portions of River Road
  occurs at stages around 30 feet and higher.


The Alabama River at Selma.
* At 7:30 PM CDT Tuesday the stage was 38.2 feet.
* Action stage is 30.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 45.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river is expected to fall below action stage
  Thursday evening.
* Impact...At 45.0 feet...Extensive overflow of low lying lands in
  the area begins. Some low roads in the area begin to flood.


Another statement will be issued by Wednesday evening, or sooner if
conditions warrant.

Please stay tuned to NOAA Weather radio or your local media for
later statements concerning this event.

It is emphasized that these forecasts are based on rainfall that has
already occurred and on additional rainfall expected during the next
48 hours.  If more rainfall than is currently forecast occurs it may
become necessary to revise these forecasts upward.
