National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD
400 AM CDT Fri Apr 12 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Sunny, warmer than normal conditions are expected today. Light and
variable winds will favor a northwest or west component this morning,
gradually favoring more southwest winds this afternoon. Afternoon
humidity levels will drop to the 20s with high temperatures in the
60s.

Saturday and Sunday bring much warmer weather with highs in the
70s and 80s. Expect near critical fire weather conditions
Saturday as southwest winds gust in the 20s and occasionally 30s
and afternoon humidity minimums reach 15 to 30%. Less wind Sunday
before gusty winds return Monday ahead of a spring storm system.

...MODERATE FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the moderate
category this afternoon. Marginal weather conditions or
lowering moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic
material on the ground, indicate that there is some potential
for a fire to spread. Any outdoor burning should be closely
monitored.

OUTLOOK FOR SATURDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the very high category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed.
