Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Glasgow MT
320 PM MDT Thu Mar 21 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Currently the 2nd day of this multi-day storm system is spreading
accumulating snow through most NE MT locations. Model data has
been fairly accurate, leading to a high confidence forecast
through the next day or two. Expect the current snowfall to taper
off tonight, opening an area of little to no precipitation for NE
MT.

Friday will bring a reprieve between snow storms. Expect light
snow or flurries with little to no accumulation.

Saturday afternoon through early Monday morning is the last and
greatest push of snowfall with this complex system. A stronger and
more defined low pressure system will push in from Idaho and
Wyoming, which has been consistently represented for placement
and timing in the model data - allowing for better than average
forecast confidence. Most of the heavier snowfall of 6 to 10
inches are expected near and south of the Hi-Line. Around 2 to 5
inches are more likely for points north of the Hi-Line.

Decision on exactly what to upgrade our Watch to will need to be
made in the next day or two. Information and messaging with this
multi-day system has been proactive and in good timing. More
details will be provided as headlines are updated.

Later Monday and beyond the weather pattern favors more of a drier
and warmer trend.
