549 FNUS54 KLUB 070740 FWFLUB Fire Weather Planning Forecast for the South Plains Area National Weather Service Lubbock TX 240 AM CDT Tue May 7 2024 .DISCUSSION... Very warm, dry and breezy southwest winds will revisit the region this afternoon and result in elevated wildfire potential near the TX-NM border. A lack of widespread above-normal ERCs and minimal wildfire activity in the past week suggests rapid wildfire growth is low overall, so will address this setup with a Rangeland Fire Danger statement for the far western South Plains and far southwest Texas Panhandle. Here, expect southwest winds around 20 mph this afternoon with minimum RHs in the upper single digits. Elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions may develop once again on Wednesday afternoon, mainly over the far southwest Texas Panhandle into the northwestern South Plains. West winds of 15 to 25 mph and minimum RH values in the upper single digits are expected across this area. Elsewhere, lighter winds should limit the fire weather concerns.
