Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Mobile AL
602 AM CDT Sun Apr 21 2024

...New NEAR TERM, LONG TERM, MARINE...

.NEAR TERM...
(Now through Monday)
Issued at 601 AM CDT Sun Apr 21 2024

A cold front continues to push south into the marine area this
morning. Meanwhile, an upper shortwave is currently moving
eastward across south Mississippi and southwest Alabama. This is
generating the area of light to moderate rain moving across our
interior areas. The rain will end from est to east by this
afternoon as the upper trough moves east and drier air returns to
the region. Skies will clear this afternoon with clear skies
expected on Monday. A cooler airmass has moved into the area in
the wake of he front and high temps today will only be in the low
to mid 60s inland to near 70 along the coast. High son Monday will
be in the upper 60s to around 70. Lows tonight will range from
the low 40s inland to low 50s along the coast. /13

.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday through Saturday)
Issued at 601 AM CDT Sun Apr 21 2024

The area continues to dry out through the remainder of the week. Dry
air continues to filter into the region in the wake of the recent
cold front and PWATs crater to 0.2-0.4 inches early on Tuesday.

The area generally remains in a northwesterly flow pattern aloft
throughout the period. The surface high draped down through the
Southeast on Tuesday will gradually drift into the western Atlantic
mid-week and surface winds take on an onshore component again. A
front slides into the Southeast Wednesday into Thursday, but hangs
up well to our north (which also keeps the rain to our north).
Moisture levels begin to rebound later in the week in response to
the increasing southerly flow.

Beach Note: Rip current risk remains low through at least mid-week.
Increasing onshore flow late in the week may lead to an increasing
risk. 07/mb
