.UPDATE...
Issued at 530 PM CST Sat Dec 13 2025

A low cloud deck, that is currently located over the northeast
half of the CWA, is progressing south and west this evening. Much
cooler temperatures in the 30s are being observed beneath this
cloud deck as it races south, so expect a quick drop in
temperatures once the clouds move overhead this evening. Behind a
cold front tonight, temperatures will be below freezing and some
patchy fog may develop across the western Panhandles. Freezing fog
will be possible given the cold temperatures, but impacts from
freezing fog should be minimal, with the only expected impact
being localized lower visibility. Patchy freezing fog has been
added to the western Panhandles for tonight along with other
minimal forecast edits through tomorrow morning.

.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Sunday night)
Issued at 1205 PM CST Sat Dec 13 2025

A cold front is passing across the panhandles today and will
depart to our south by the later afternoon. Following the passage
of the cold front the winds will shift to the north to north east
and become gusty. The winds will most likely be gusting in the 20s
to 30s mph range during the daytime then weakening to the 20s mph
for the evening and early overnight. These winds will push in
colder air across the panhandles leading to a drop in the
temperatures. Overnight some moisture along the periphery of the
colder air will lead to the formation of a bank of low clouds.
This bank of clouds will drift to the SW and and come to sit
across mainly the western half of the panhandles. Underneath this
cloud bank there is a low chance that freezing fog will form which
can create some travel difficulties for Sunday. Whatever fog that
manages to form along with the bank of low clouds will rapidly
dissipate late Sunday morning. The benefit of the low clouds will
be keeping the overnight low a little warmer in the lower 20s. For
in the eastern panhandles where skies are more likely to be clear
the overnight lows will most likely drop into the teens. The rest
of Sunday will retain colder air leading to temperatures roughly
10 to 20 degrees colder when compared to today. The larger
temperature drops will be in the eastern panhandles while the
smaller temperatures drops will be for the western panhandles.
Otherwise both today and Sunday will continue the trend of dry and
fair weather days.

.LONG TERM...
(Monday through next Friday)
Issued at 1205 PM CST Sat Dec 13 2025

The pattern of quiet dry weather has a high chance of continuing
through much of next work week. Monday through Wednesday the
southern plains is most likely to stay under a ridge of higher
pressure leading to warm and dry conditions. This would continue
the stretch of above normal temperatures with dry and fair
weather conditions. Thursday there is a moderate chance for the
ridge to break down allowing a dry weather system to push across
the panhandles. Since this system is most likely to be dry the
only noticeable impacts will be a brief dip in the temperatures
and gusty winds. For Friday into Saturday the most likely scenario
is for either a neutral period or a ridge to move across the
southern plains. This would lead to another couple of warmer than
normal days with dry weather conditions.

.AVIATION...
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 530 PM CST Sat Dec 13 2025

Low clouds are moving south and west which are leading to MVFR or
lower ceilings, which is currently impacting KGUY. KAMA and KDHT
will eventually be underneath this low cloud deck and MVFR to IFR
ceilings and visibility can be expected once this cloud deck moves
overhead. Patchy fog will be possible at the sites in addition to
the low clouds. The clouds and potential fog should clear out
shortly after sunrise and VFR conditions are expected thereafter.
Breezy winds out of the northeast will diminish overnight and turn
to out of the south towards the later half of this TAF cycle.
