.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 413 AM CDT Thu Apr 18 2024

A few showers and thunderstorms continue to move across the northern
portions of the Hastings CWA this morning. Over the next couple of
hours, thunderstorm chances will diminish. There will still be a
20 to 40 percent chance of showers past sunrise, with rainfall
diminishing west to east by mid-morning. It will feel quite chilly
today across the region as cooler air filters in behind a cold front
that passed through yesterday. North winds will remain breezy,
around 15 to 25 MPH with gusts as high as 35 MPH.

Tonight, temperatures will fall into the 30s across the region. With
light winds and mostly clear skies early in the evening, this will
open the door to a period where some patchy frost cannot be entirely
ruled out. Clouds are expected to increase overnight, which should
help limit the overall frost potential. With the beginning of
growing season occurring, the next few mornings will be something to
keep an eye on.

A broad upper trough extending west to east from the PACNW to New
England, and south into Nebraska, will be in place over the Central
Plains. A few disturbances may move through the region, bringing a
few periodic shower chances to the region on Friday and Saturday.
Saturday morning, temperatures will be in the upper 20s fro areas
north of Hwy 2, and the 30s for areas south. The northern areas
will be cold enough where rain may mix with snow or change over to
all snow. Highs Friday and Saturday will be in the 50s.

The pattern changes heading into Sunday, with a ridge over the
western CONUS slowly making its way over the region. Temperatures
will be noticeably warmer each day, with highs in the 60s and
70s and lows in the 30s and 40s. Thunderstorm chances return to
the forecast on Monday. Periodic shower and thunderstorm
activity will be possible Sunday through the end of the extended
forecast.
