Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Southeast Wyoming/Western Nebraska
National Weather Service CHEYENNE WY
334 AM MDT Sun Apr 14 2024

...HIGH WIND WATCH IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
TUESDAY AFTERNOON FOR THE SOUTH LARAMIE RANGE AND FOOTHILLS...

.DISCUSSION...

Warm and dry weather is expected to continue through Monday. Winds will
turn southerly over the High Plains today, and more southwesterly west
of the Laramie range leading to elevated fire weather conditions for much
of the area. While humidity is expected to drop to between 10 & 15% for
most of the area this afternoon, wind gusts should remain below criteria
east of the Laramie range. Further west, frequent gusts of 25 to 35 MPH
will be possible, but with fuels in green-up status, no headlines will
be issued. Expect gusty southerly winds to develop over the NE panhandle
tonight into early Monday

A dynamic day is expected Monday. Elevated to near critical fire weather
conditions are possible, mainly in the southern Nebraska panhandle. Showers
and thunderstorms may develop Monday afternoon over the High Plains. Then,
a strong cold front will push through in the afternoon or evening, bringing
the potential for westerly wind gusts of 50+ MPH in its wake. While precip
is expected, confidence is highest in wetting rains (or accumulating snows
in the higher elevations) along and west of the Laramie range. Precipitation
will be more spotty to the east, but most areas should see at least some light
rain. Strong northwest winds return Tuesday over the High Plains.
