000 NOUS43 KGLD 121201 PNSGLD Public Information Statement National Weather Service Goodland KS 600 AM MDT Fri Apr 12 2024 ...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY... In 1941, what many people consider to be the worst natural disaster to hit Sharon Springs, Kansas, occurred. A tornado struck the south side of Sharon Springs around 9 PM in the evening. Five people were injured and 12 houses were completely destroyed. The tornado overturned 38 railroad cars. One automobile was found one mile from its original location, a pile of junk. Many trees in the community were uprooted. $$
