Fire danger will remain low today, with two rounds of scattered showers and thunderstorms expected. Highest amounts are expected along and east of I-29, where amounts may range from a quarter inch up towards an inch. Areas west of I-29 may see amounts of a couple hundredths up to a quarter inch. Wednesday will see mostly dry conditions throughout the day, with minimum RH`s in the 30s and 40s and weak winds. Another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms is expected to move into the region late Wednesday afternoon, continuing overnight into Thursday. Rainfall with this system is expected to be 1-1.5" for areas east of a line from Windom, MN to Ponca, NE, half an inch to an inch extending westwards to Brookings, SD and down to Lake Andes, while areas west of that line may see up to a quarter inch. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be with reasonable safety precautions, but should be monitored. OUTLOOK FOR WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category. The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed. $$
