...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1952, a thunderstorm developed 15 miles northwest of Goodland,
Kansas, in the early evening. This was the first storm to be detected
by a radar over the Tri State area. The radar in use at the time was
called a W S R 1, and had been used by the navy during World War Two.

In 2002, a heat wave gripped the area as temperatures were sent
well into the low and mid 90s. Every official weather station in
the area broke a record high temperature, including 97 degrees
at McCook Nebraska.
