...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM HST EARLY THIS
MORNING FOR THE ISLAND OF HAWAII IN HAWAII COUNTY...

At 347 AM HST, radar indicated heavy rain over Kohala and Hamakua
Districts. Rain was falling at a rate of 2 to 3 inches per hour.
Highway 270 near mile post 5 near Kawaihae Harbor is currently
closed due to flooding. Area stream gauges remain elevated.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

SOURCE...Radar.

IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads,
         properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road
         closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible
         in steep terrain.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Waikoloa Village, Kapaau, Pololu Valley, Kohala Ranch, Kawaihae,
  Waimanu Valley, Halaula, Waipio Valley, Kamuela, Hawi, Puako,
  Kukuihaele, Mahukona and Mauna Lani.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even
if they are currently dry.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
