Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR S Cntrl and Sern Colorado
National Weather Service Pueblo Co
643 AM MDT Sun May 27 2018

...A Red Flag Warning remains in effect from Noon until 9 PM MDT
today for gusty winds, low humidity, and dry fuels for fire
weather zones 220 through 230, which includes all areas from the
I-25 corridor and westward to the Continental Divide...

...A Fire Weather Watch has been issued from late Monday Morning
until Monday Evening for gusty winds, low humidity and dry fuels
for fire weather zones 224, 225, 229 and 230, which includes the
Sangre De Cristo and Wet Mountains and Wet Mountain Valley, the
San Luis valley and the southern I-25 corridor of Huerfano and
western Las Animas counties...

.Discussion...

Critical fire weather conditions will develop across the western two
thirds of the district today, extending from the I-25 corridor westward
to the Continental Divide due to a combination of gusty winds, low humidity
values and dry fuels. For the remainder of the eastern plains, fuels
are either not deemed critical and/or the area will remain to the east of
a dry line which will help keep humidity values above critical thresholds.
Isolated thunderstorms will be possible across the eastern plains this
afternoon, however any rainfall will be very localized.

A return of critical fire weather conditions will be possible for southern
portions of the area on Monday with another Fire Weather Watch going into
effect from late morning through the evening. Isolated thunderstorms will
be possible across the central mountains and far eastern plains where
one or two strong storms will be possible.

Winds decrease for Tuesday and Wednesday and thunderstorm chances
will expand across more of the area. Although widespread wetting rains are
not expected, some spotty areas could receive some locally heavy rainfall.

It will heat up and dry out again for late week into next weekend with
Friday possibly being another critical fire weather day as winds increase
again.

All areas will see afternoon smoke dispersion rates rise into the very good
to excellent category both today and Monday. Dispersions will drop back into
the poor to fair category after sunset.

--- thunderstorms imply strong gusty and erratic winds ---
