Rangeland Fire Danger Statement

.DISCUSSION...Warmer and drier conditions are expected today as
high pressure moves across the area. Minimum relative humidity
will fall to around 25 percent across much of the South Dakota
plains. Breezy southerly winds will push the rangeland fire danger
into the high category across northwestern South Dakota.

...HIGH FIRE DANGER...

The grassland fire danger index will reach the high category this
afternoon. Unfavorable weather conditions or a low moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground,
indicate that there is a moderate to high potential for a fire
occurrence. Outdoor burning should be restricted to early morning
or evening hours when wind speeds are usually lower and the
relative humidity is higher.

The outlook for Thursday afternoon, The grassland fire danger
index will reach the moderate category to high category.

...MODERATE FIRE DANGER...

The grassland fire danger index will reach the moderate category
this afternoon. Marginal weather conditions or a lowering
moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on
the ground, indicate that there is some potential for a fire
occurrence. Do not leave outdoor fires unattended under these
conditions.

The outlook for Thursday afternoon, The grassland fire danger
index will reach the low category to high category.
