.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 303 PM CDT Fri Apr 19 2024

As of 245pm, a deep midlevel low was positioned across southern
Ontario with a trailing trough axis into the northern Plains. At
the surface, a ridge axis extends from the NE Panhandle through
eastern KS. The stretch of cooler than normal temperatures
continues today with highs in the 60s. Rain showers are forecast
to overspread central KS late this evening as the right
entrance region of a midlevel speed max overlaps a modest
baroclinic zone. This baroclinic zone will gradually slide
southward overnight into Saturday, shifting rain chances south
as well. The main point with this rain event is amounts will be
quite low with most locations receiving less than 0.10".

Surface ridging remains in the neighborhood throughout the weekend,
keeping afternoon temperatures in the 60s. The ridge axis slides
east, allowing southerly low-level flow to return Monday. A midlevel
trough will slide across the northern Plains late Monday into
Tuesday, shunting a cold front through the forecast area.

Midlevel ridging will gradually amplify through midweek across the
Plains. Low-level WAA by midweek may yield showers and storms,
especially across southern KS/OK. The midlevel ridge axis will slide
east Thursday with longwave troughing overspreading the western
CONUS. A lead shortwave trough will eject into the central
Plains Thursday. Showers and thunderstorms are possible with its
passage. The pattern appears to remain active into next week
with more chances for showers and storms.
