Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
306 AM CDT Sat May 4 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Critically dry fuels are present west and southwest of the Pecos
River, with ERCs near or above the 90th percentile over
westernmost portions of the area. Min critical RH exists west of
dryline each afternoon this weekend, with near critical fire
weather possible today and Sunday over westernmost portions of the
area, and lightning and gusty, erratic winds in any storms posing
risk for fire starts. Dryline moves east of entire area Monday
with decreasing dewpoints and min RH at or below critical 15%
through Thursday. This along with above average temperatures and
gusty westerly winds each afternoon Monday through Thursday
produces critical fire weather conditions, but eastward extent of
risk depends on westward extent and amount of rain this weekend.
Behind a cold front at the end of this week, better overnight
recovery, increased min RH, cooler temperatures, and increased
clouds limit fire weather concerns.
