Spot Forecast for Kodiak City Landslide Response...Kodiak Police Department
National Weather Service Anchorage AK
235 PM AKDT Thu Apr 18 2024

Forecast is based on forecast start time of 1400 AKDT on April 18.
.DISCUSSION...

An atmospheric river is pointed directly to the northwestern Gulf
of Alaska. Over four inches of rain has fallen over Kodiak since
the storm started. The heaviest rain and highest winds are
expected this afternoon then ease and remain steady tonight. Rain
intensities and winds may increase again for Friday, mid to late
morning into the afternoon. The weather pattern is expected to
change little for the rest of this week, though the forecast
challenge will be the duration and where the highest intensities
will set up as the front starts to waver for Friday and Saturday.
Total rainfall through Saturday morning is expected to be around
an additional three inches. While there is high confidence that
rainfall will continue then linger through this weekend, there is
low confidence on the rain intensities late Friday night going
into Saturday.
