After a day of breezy to locally windy and dry conditions today, critical to extreme fire weather conditions enter the forecast Thursday. Widespread humidity in the low double to single digits will prevail Thursday afternoon amongst strong southwest winds. The strongest winds will favor the highlands of the central mountains where gusts of 60 mph are likely in the afternoon. Critical fire weather conditions will be more limited to portions of central and eastern New Mexico on Friday where critically low humidity and gusty west winds will persist. Improved moisture on Saturday will bring a reprieve, with only widespread elevated conditions. A trend of hotter, drier and more unstable conditions is forecast from Sunday through Tuesday with less wind.
