.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Thursday)
Issued at 318 AM EDT Wed May 1 2024

Current obs are showing areas of patchy dense fog over north GA and
areas just south of ATL. An SPS for patchy dense fog is in effect
through 8 am for this. After the fog clears after sunrise, looking at
temps warming into the mid 80s and a cumulus field to setup over the
area for the afternoon into the evening. No rain is expected for
today. Looking at tomorrow, similar conditions are expected with
temps rising into the upper 80s to close to 90 (central GA). Winds
will stay light through the period, but overall a pretty quiet period
as ridging takes back over until the weekend.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday night through Tuesday)
Issued at 318 AM EDT Wed May 1 2024

At a glance:

- Caliente.

- Chance for afternoon thunderstorm this weekend and into next week.

With the ridge firmly in place, temperatures are expected to climb
into the mid to upper 80s again on Friday. Overnight lows will be in
the mid 60s; which is around 10-15 degrees above our normal overnight
lows for this time of year.

A short wave will bring the chance of thunderstorms north of I-20 on
Friday night and into Saturday. This may help moderate temps in
northern Georgia to the low 80s and upper 70s; still around 5 degrees
above normal but temps across the southern part of the CWA may reach
90 by the afternoon.

Conditionally stable conditions will settle in after the front moves
out. Convective triggered thunderstorms will be possible beginning
Sunday afternoon as daytime heating provides enough of a lift to get
our humid summer atmosphere churning.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 132 PM EDT Wed May 1 2024

VFR conditions are expected through the cycle. CU field may go
broken at times at CSG prior to sunset. Elsewhere, mostly scattered
conditions are expected, with drier air aloft mixing into the cloud
layer in the Atlanta metro area. This should thin cloud coverage,
even as the clouds themselves spread beneath the subsidence
inversion. Due to a wider temperature/dew point spread tonight, not
much in the way of fog formation is expected. Winds will be very
light, with the direction veering to NE at ATL around 01Z. There may
be brief periods when the winds go E of N at ATL later this afternoon
during maximum mixing.

//ATL Confidence...18Z Update...
Medium to high for wind direction, high for all other elements.
