040 FNUS53 KGID 051024 FWFGID Fire Weather Planning Forecast for S/C Nebraska and N/C Kansas National Weather Service Hastings NE 524 AM CDT Sun May 5 2024 .DISCUSSION... Today, high pressure over the area will keep conditions dry and allow high temperatures to climb into the mid to upper 60s. Winds will be lightest in the morning with sustained SSE winds of 10-20 mph and gusts of 20-25 mph. This afternoon, winds will increase to 15-25 mph sustained with gusts to 30 mph across western portions of the forecast area. Gusts will increase to 35 mph after midnight. Minimum RH values will be 40 to 50 percent across the north and east and 50 to 55 percent west and south. Monday, showers and thunderstorms are expected across the area. Some of the thunderstorms will be severe with large hail, strong erratic winds near thunderstorms (to around 70 mph), and isolated tornadoes. Outside of thunderstorms, SSE winds will continue to increase through the day with sustained winds of 20-30 mph and gusts of 35-45 mph. Winds will become southwesterly mid-afternoon but remain quite gusty behind a cold front. Monday evening, winds will diminish to around 10 mph out of the southwest. High temperatures will range from the upper 60s to mid 70s. Minimum RH values will be as low as 25 to 30 percent in the afternoon across our far western counties, but significantly higher farther east.
