Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD
456 AM CDT Tue Apr 24 2018

.DISCUSSION...
A chance of rain showers and cooler temperatures are expected for
most areas today, with rain chances greatest for areas west of the
Interstate 29 corridor. Seasonable temperatures and generally dry
conditions should prevail through the remainder of this week, with
the exception of Thursday when northwest Iowa could see a few rain
showers in the afternoon. The showers accompany a cool front, which
will be followed by gusty north winds across the region Thursday.
These stronger winds will lead to High or Very High fire danger by
Thursday afternoon.

Looking ahead to the weekend/early next week, warmer temperatures
will spread into the region, accompanied by increasing southerly
winds, especially Sunday and Monday. The warmer temperatures and
stronger winds will produce elevated fire danger both days.

...HIGH FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the high category
this afternoon. Unfavorable weather conditions or a low
moisture content of grasses and other dry organic material
on the ground indicate that there is a moderate to high
potential for a fire occurrence. Outdoor burning should be
restricted to early morning or evening hours when wind speeds
are usually lower and the relative humidity is higher.

OUTLOOK FOR WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the low category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed.
