Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
330 AM CDT Thu May 2 2024

Today:

Showers and thunderstorms have become more numerous overnight. While
the threat of severe weather has been low, some of the more intense
storms have produced frequent lightning and heavy downpours.
Temperatures are generally in the upper 40s and 50s with easterly
winds.

A large complex of showers and storms will push into the state from
the west this morning, leading to a period of more widespread
moderate to heavy rainfall. The western half of the state should
begin to dry out this afternoon, while showers and thunderstorms
continue further east. A few of these storms may become strong to
severe, but widespread severe weather is unlikely. Rainfall amounts
across the state will range from 1 to 2 inches with locally higher
amounts before all the precipitation exits this evening into
tonight. Highs today will be in the 60s to low 70s.

Tonight and beyond:

Conditions dry out for Friday with pleasant spring conditions in
store with highs in the low to mid 70s and mostly sunny skies.
Chances for showers and storms return Saturday and once again early
next week. The severe weather threat appears low at this time, but
will be further evaluated in the coming days. Highs through the
weekend into early next week will range from the mid 60s to upper
70s.
