Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
334 PM SST Mon Apr 15 2024

.Discussion...
Latest model data have diverged from previous runs, which
suggested a strong southeast breeze. However, current observations
reported lower winds than expected. Because of this change in
weather, the trough north of the Islands has shifted closer to the
territory. Hence, expect an uptick in showers from scattered to
numerous tonight through Friday. However, the potential for
flooding is low for this timeframe as models suggest moisture and
convection focusing more over Tuvalu.

Furthermore, east winds will remain in the 10 to 20 mph range
through the end of the week. Although a brief decrease of 10 mph
winds is possible Wednesday, enhanced winds will follow Thursday
through Monday. Scattered showers will remain for the long term
forecast.

.Marine...
Latest wave heights are near 8 to 9 feet via satellite data. As
winds continue to diminish in the area, expect seas to also follow
a diminishing trend. However, a small craft advisory remains in
effect as wave heights hold in the 8 foot rage. The advisory may
briefly drop Wednesday as winds diminish to a gentle breeze.
However, when winds strengthen again Thursday through the weekend,
expect seas to also build.
