758 FXZS60 NSTU 060115 AFDPPG Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pago Pago AS 215 PM SST Sun May 5 2024 .Short term... A rainy weather pattern remains over American Samoa as a trough has stalled over the region and a low pressure system to the west of Samoa continuing to bring moisture from the north. Satellite imagery from this morning and early afternoon shows thunderstorms in the vicinity of the territory. Cloudy and rainy weather will continue through Monday along with the potential of thunderstorms as instability remaining high. Winds will remain up to around 10 mph from the north, but gusts may occur in localized thunderstorms. The weather pattern begins to change on Tuesday as the aforementioned low pressure system moves south of American Samoa and will help bring the abundant amount of moisture with it. Even though showers will become less numerous, rainfall is still likely in the passing form along with breaks in the clouds. Northerly winds remain light. .Long term... As the aforementioned low pressure system moves further south from mid to late week, the risk of rain decreases. The risk of showers will remain numerous, but in the passing form with a mix of sun and clouds. A light north/northwesterly wind remains through the week and finally getting back to a weather pattern where rainfall amounts will be back to normal with easterly flow by the weekend. As winds remaining weak, humid conditions will remain in the middle to late week. && .Marine... The latest information from the recent POES satellite pass through shows seas around 7 feet, while a Sofar floating buoy to the south and east of Manu`a shows seas around 8 feet. A southerly swell is expected to move through the region today and will continue through midweek. Even though wind driven waves will decrease as wind strength remains up to 15 knots, the northerly winds combined with the incoming southerly swell will create adverse conditions for the American Samoa coastal waters through the middle of the week. && .PPG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
