THE SPRING-LIKE WARMTH THAT FINALLY ARRIVED AT THE END OF MARCH MADE
A SWIFT DEPARTURE ONCE APRIL CAME AROUND. SEVERAL BACK TO BACK
TROUGHS OF LOW PRESSURE BROUGHT COLD AIR IN FROM CANADA, WITH THE
APRIL SUN TRIGGERING AFTERNOON RAIN AND SNOW SHOWERS. AFTER A BRIEF
WARM UP BROUGHT 60 DEGREE WARMTH, MORE COLD AIR POURED IN FOR THE
MIDDLE OF THE MONTH. THE COLDEST DAY WAS APRIL 15 WHEN THE
TEMPERATURE WAS BELOW FREEZING ALL DAY. THE HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 32
ON APRIL 15 WAS THE LATEST RECORDED DAY THAT THE TEMPERATURE DID NOT
WARM ABOVE FREEZING AT AUGUSTA. RAIN MOVED IN ON THE 16TH WHEN MORE
THAN AN INCH OF RAIN FELL WITH TEMPERATURES WARMING UP JUST A BIT,
BUT STAYING BELOW NORMAL. WARMER, SPRING-LIKE WEATHER FINALLY
ARRIVED AGAIN BY THE END OF APRIL, WITH 5 OUT OF 6 DAYS TOPPING 60
DEGREES FROM THE 23RD THRU 28TH.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 41.3 DEGREES WHICH WAS 2.6
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL AND THE COLDEST APRIL SINCE 2003. THE COLDEST
APRIL ON RECORD WAS IN 1967 WHEN THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 40.1
DEGREES. THE WARMEST WAS IN 2010 AT 48.9 DEGREES.

A TOTAL OF 4.78 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL WHICH WAS 0.99 INCHES
ABOVE NORMAL. THE HEAVIEST FELL ON APRIL 25 AND 26 WHEN 2.23 INCHES
WAS RECORDED. THE WETTEST APRIL ON RECORD WAS IN 2005 WHEN 9.06
INCHES WAS RECORDED. THE DRIEST WAS IN 1999 WHEN ONLY 0.33 INCHES
FELL.

THE FOLLOWING DAILY RECORDS WERE SET OR TIED IN APRIL 2018...
DATE RECORD PREVIOUS
15 32 - COLDEST HIGH TEMPERATURE 37 IN 1981
26 1.29 - GREATEST PRECIPITATION 1.22 IN 2017
