AKZ155-122215- /O.EXT.PAFC.FA.A.0004.000000T0000Z-240513T0100Z/ /00000.0.IJ.000000T0000Z.000000T0000Z.000000T0000Z.OO/ Kuskokwim Delta- Including the cities of Bethel and Nunivak Island 206 PM AKDT Sat May 11 2024 ...FLOOD WATCH FOR AN ICE JAM NOW IN EFFECT THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON FOR THE KUSKOKWIM RIVER... * WHAT...Flooding caused by an ice jam continues to be possible. * WHERE...The following area, the lower Kuskokwim River near Eek, Tuntutuliak and other riverside communities. * WHEN...Through Sunday afternoon. * IMPACTS...The Kuskokwim River is continuing to flood from Kwethluk downstream to the coastal communities. Flooding of low lying and flood prone areas along the Kuskokwim River continues to be possible. Residents should be prepared for high water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - River Watch reconnaissance shows the Kuskokwim River breakup front was just downstream of Napakiak. Firm ice is still in place downstream of Napakiak, though it is showing signs of weakening today. Impounded water from the ice jam extends upstream as far as Kwethluk. Flooding is now a combination of residual water from the ice jam and snowmelt.
