...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 945 PM EDT FOR
CENTRAL BATH COUNTY...

At 641 PM EDT, local law enforcement reported road closures due to
mudslides and debris flow. Bath County sheriff`s office reports that
Route 615 near Hot Springs and Route 687 near Bacova were closed due
to mud covering the roads from excessive rainfall. Slow-moving
thunderstorms have produced up to four inches of rain in the warned
area, with an additional half inch of rain expected as storms move
slowly southward. Rapid rises were also observed on the Back Creek.
Flash flooding is already occurring in portions of Bath County with
additional flash flooding expected to begin shortly.

Excessive rainfall over the warned area will cause mud slides near
steep terrain. The mud slide can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and
other loose materials.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Warm Springs...
Hot Springs...
Lake Moomaw...
Mountain Grove...
and Douthat State Park.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where
you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or
creeks.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring.
If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately.
Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate
precautions to protect life and property.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
by calling toll free at 1...8 6 6...2 1 5...4 3 2 4. Reports and
pictures can also be shared on the National Weather Service
Blacksburg Facebook page and on Twitter.
