...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1893, prairie fires had been burning for two days across Rawlins
and Thomas counties in Kansas. Smoke from the fires twenty miles
away blotted out the sun in Colby.

In 1975, with cloudy skies and light snow observed all day at
Goodland, the high temperature only reached 20 degrees. This was
the lowest high temperature ever recorded during the month of April
at that location.
