...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1987, a powerful storm spread heavy snow across the
Northern Plains while severe thunderstorms struck parts
parts of the Southern Plains.  Snowfalls reached around
one and half feet in Sydney Nebraska, while
baseball-sized hail `batter`ed Stringtown and Atoka
Oklahoma.

In 1969, a record-setting snowstorm that struck in Maine
finally ended but not until 2 to 4 feet overwhelmed most
of the state.  The event was highlighted by 4.5 to 5 foot
accumulations in West Forks, located in Western Maine.
