Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Extreme Southeast Arkansas,
Northeast Louisiana, and Central Mississippi
National Weather Service Jackson MS
518 AM CDT Thu May 9 2024

.DISCUSSION...Patchy fog will be possible this morning, but dense
fog is not anticipated. Rain chances will increase this morning
as the cold front slowly sags into the north throughout the day.
Rain chances will spread to the south today across the central
districts today as the frontal boundary stall across central
Mississippi. Strong to severe storms will be likely across the
central districts later tonight as a strong system with damaging
winds, large hail up to golf ball, and locally heavy rain races
east across the region. A few tornadoes cannot be ruled out. The
severe threat will end early Friday morning with lingering showers
on Friday. A reinforcing cold front will push into the area
Friday morning and clear the area, ushering in cooler and drier
air. Dry weather and cooler than normal temperatures are expected
Friday night through the weekend. Rain chances will return Sunday
night ahead of the next low pressure system Monday into Tuesday.
