.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1030 PM EDT Mon May 6 2024

Currently - An Atlantic high continues to pivot out into the
Atlantic while holding on to a ridge that stretches west across
Florida and the Gulf of Mexico. This is maintaining moderate
easterly breezes across the Keys. This easterly flow is resulting
in a continued slow moderation. Temperatures remain generally near
80 with dew points up in the lower 70s. The Keys is within the
broad descending branch of a low amplitude upper trough over the
Atlantic. As a result, lower to mid level ridging is situated well
to our west. This evenings sounding indicated essentially no
inhibition with precipitable water ticking upwards to around 1.66
inches. Despite this, a lack of lower level forcing and some drier
layers in the lower levels have prevented any shower activity near
the island chain. A few showers have been able to percolate over
the distant southeastern Florida Straits and over the gulf waters
west of Fort Myers.

Short Term Update - The surface high will continue to push further
out into the Atlantic. However, an associated ridge will remain
planted westward across Florida and the gulf. This will keep
moderate easterly breezes across the Keys. Forecast soundings
indicate that some inhibition may develop, but up around 850 mb.
Meanwhile, moisture through the lowest levels is expected to nudge
upwards. All this along with continued moderate breezes and the
usual nocturnal peak justifies holding onto dime pops through the
overnight period. Expect temperatures to only fall a degree or
three from current readings and overnight lows will settle in the
upper 70s with dew points remaining in the lower 70s.
