Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
1225 PM CDT Wed May 1 2024

...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING
FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, 20-FT WINDS OF 20 MPH OR
MORE, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER FOR THE GUADALUPE
MOUNTAINS, SACRAMENTO FOOTHILLS, AND EDDY AND CHAVEZ COUNTY
PLAINS...

.DISCUSSION...

Critical relative humidity will continue for locations behind the
dryline through the period. This combines with periods of elevated
winds resulting in critical fire weather at times. A Red Flag
Warning is in effect for much of southeast New Mexico and the
Guadalupe Mountains due to this through this evening. Winds
weaken over the next several days but near critical fire weather
remains possible. Our next weather system on Monday brings
stronger winds and more widespread critical fire weather
potential. Recoveries remain poor to the west and good to
excellent to the east. Fuels are very dry across the west where
little rain has been received over the last month. There is the
potential for lightning starts, mainly over the higher elevations,
today and again this weekend.

Matrix product issued by the Midland/Odessa National Weather
Service Office.
