186 FNUS54 KMAF 051855 FWFMAF Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX 155 PM CDT Sun May 5 2024 ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH MONDAY EVENING FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, 20-FT WINDS OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER FOR THE SACRAMENTO FOOTHILLS, SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO PLAINS, GUADALUPE AND DAVIS MOUNTAINS, DAVIS MOUNTAINS FOOTHILLS, CULBERSON COUNTY, AND THE UPPER TRANS PECOS... ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, 20-FT WINDS OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER FOR THE SACRAMENTO FOOTHILLS, SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO PLAINS, GUADALUPE AND DAVIS MOUNTAINS, DAVIS MOUNTAINS FOOTHILLS, CULBERSON COUNTY, AND THE UPPER TRANS PECOS... .DISCUSSION... Critically dry fuels remain over the western portions of the region. Critical relative humidity continues each day west of the dryline and the dryline is pushed east of the entire region on Monday. Localized elevated to near critical conditions may develop across portions of southeast New Mexico this afternoon. Wind speeds increase on Monday resulting in widespread critical fire weather conditions across areas with critically dry fuels. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for those areas as a result. With similar conditions expected to Tuesday a Fire Weather Watch has also been issued. These conditions may persist on Wednesday as well. Despite widespread critical relative humidity, recent rains limit eastward extent of fire weather concerns. Thursday sees a cold front enter the region and this clears the region on Friday effectively ending fire weather concerns for now. && For point-specific forecasts please see the Point Fire Weather Matrix product issued by the Midland/Odessa National Weather Service Office.
