723 FNUS54 KMAF 010742 FWFMAF Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX 242 AM CDT Wed May 1 2024 ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 10% OR LESS, 20-FT WINDS OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER FOR THE GUADALUPE MOUNTAINS, SACRAMENTO FOOTHILLS, AND EDDY AND CHAVEZ COUNTY PLAINS... .DISCUSSION... Critical relative humidity is forecast each day through the period west of the dryline. An active weather pattern will bring periods of stronger winds every few days. Wednesday, 20-ft winds will increase over the Guadalupe Mountains, Sacramento Foothills, and adjacent plains immediately to the east, combining with very critical fuels in these areas as ERCs climb over the 90th percentile. Drier conditions become more widespread Thursday, but stronger 20-ft winds are expected only at the higher elevations. More moist conditions arrive behind a cold front for most of the area Friday into the weekend, but higher elevations will remain very dry. Recovery overnight and Wednesday night will be poor in much of the terrain west of the Pecos, but moderate to excellent elsewhere. A stronger storm system Monday could bring more widespread critical fire weather conditions to the region. && For point-specific forecasts please see the Point Fire Weather Matrix product issued by the Midland/Odessa National Weather Service Office.
