Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Reno NV
118 PM PDT Sun Apr 28 2024

.SYNOPSIS...

Seasonable temperatures and breezy winds will be in place to start
the week before a dry cold front cools things back down by
Wednesday. Temperatures will then quickly rebound to above average
for the second half of the week with an increasing chance of
showers by next weekend.

.DISCUSSION...

Dry weather continues into early next week with high temperatures
reaching the upper 60s to near 70 across western Nevada valleys
and upper 50s for Sierra communities. Winds will also see an
uptick on Monday and Tuesday with west-northwest breezes
developing each afternoon with gusts of 25-35 mph. This could
create some choppy conditions across area lakes.

Winds will then shift out of the north-northeast Tuesday night
into Wednesday as a dry cold front brushes across northern Nevada.
This will cool temperatures 5-10 degrees behind the front on
Wednesday with lower 60s on tap for W.NV and low to mid 50s for
Sierra valleys. Chilly overnight lows will also be in place
Wednesday night with freezing temperatures possible across Sierra
valleys and rural western Nevada valleys. Might want to consider
covering any temperature sensitive outdoor plants.

Temperatures will quickly rebound by Thursday into the start of
the weekend with mid to upper 70s returning for W.NV valleys and
mid 60s for Sierra valleys. Dry conditions will continue through
at least Friday before some lower chances for showers (15-25%)
arrive across portions of Lassen County into the Surprise Valley
Saturday and into Sunday. These chances will hinge on the
position of a closed low off the west coast over the weekend which
numerical guidance has been showing considerable uncertainly with
over the past few days. Fuentes

.AVIATION...

Dry weather with VFR conditions will prevail Mon-Tues with some
increasing west to northwest breezes with gusts of 20-30kt
possible across Sierra and western Nevada terminals. Potential for
areas of minor mountain wave turbulence and LLWS. A dry cold front
will then shift winds N-NE by Tuesday night into Wednesday
morning. Fuentes
