...APRIL SUMMARY FOR OMAHA...

APRIL WAS COLDER AND DRIER THAN NORMAL. IN FACT, APRIL 2018 WAS THE
6TH COLDEST AND THE 3RD DRIEST ON RECORD. AS YOU MIGHT EXPECT, SEVERAL
NEW TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE ESTABLISHED DURING THE MONTH, SOME GOING
BACK OVER 100 YEARS.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 44.9 DEGREES OR 6.8 DEGREES
BELOW NORMAL. THE LAST TIME WE WERE THIS COLD IN APRIL WAS 35 YEARS IN
1983 WHEN THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 43.9 DEGREES, THE
SECOND COLDEST APRIL ON RECORD. HERE IS A LIST OF NEW RECORDS FOR APRIL.

APRIL 4  RECORD LOW 0F 13. OLD RECORD 18 SET IN 1899.
APRIL 7  RECORD LOW OF 14. OLD RECORD 17 SET IN 1936.
APRIL 15  RECORD LOW MAXIMUM OF 33. OLD RECORD 37 SET IN 1872.

APRIL WAS ALSO MUCH DRIER THAN NORMAL WITH ONLY 0.27 OF AN INCH OF
PRECIPITATION RECORDED. THIS WAS 2.69 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. THE LAST
TIME IT WAS THIS DRY WAS IN 1936 WITH 0.23 OF AN INCH RECORDED.

THE FIRST THREE WEEKS OF THE MONTH WERE CONSISTENTLY COLD WITH ONLY A
SHORT 3 DAY PERIOD FROM THE 11TH  13TH THAT AVERAGED ABOVE NORMAL, THE
REST OF THOSE DAYS THROUGH THE 21ST WERE BELOW NORMAL. SNOW WAS RECORDED
ON 7 DAYS WITH A MONTHLY SNOWFALL TOTAL OF 1.5 INCHES. THE GREATEST
24HR SNOWFALL WAS 0.8 INCHES ON THE 15TH AND THE GREATEST SNOW DEPTH
WAS 1 INCH ON THE 15TH AND 16TH.

THE HIGHEST WINDS OF THE MONTH OCCURRED ON THE 30TH WITH GUSTS REACHING
52 MPH FROM THE SOUTH.
