.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1016 AM EDT Sat Apr 13 2024
Surface observations are showing continued elevated winds this
morning, so the Small Craft Advisory has been extended until 5 PM
EDT this afternoon when winds are forecast to fall below advisory
criteria. Other than that, no changes have been made to the
forecast as everything is unfolding as expected. Satellite shows
mostly sunny skies in the forecast area, and current temperatures
along the island chain are in the low to mid 70s. Coupled with
dew points in the mid to upper 50s, it`s a beautiful morning if we
overlook the stronger breezes outside.

.MARINE...
Issued at 1016 AM EDT Sat Apr 13 2024
An ongoing nocturnal surge is resulting in continued
fresh north to northeasterly breezes, but breezes will slacken
gradually during the late afternoon hours. Thereafter, high
pressure will slide into the western Atlantic and remain through
the remainder of the forecast period with peaks and lulls
expected. A period of moderate to fresh easterlies is becoming
increasingly likely Monday night through Wednesday.

.AVIATION...
(15Z TAFS)
Issued at 1016 AM EDT Sat Apr 13 2024
VFR conditions will prevail at both island terminals through the TAF
period. North to northeast surface winds will pose a cross-wind
aviation challenge, with occasional gusts 20 to 25 knots expected
through the early afternoon. Winds will slacken later this afternoon
and slowly veer to the northeast to east. Occasional gusts near 20
knots are expected once again for late evening into the overnight
hours.

&&

.CLIMATE...
On this day in 2004, a large, long-lived supercell tracked eastward
from the Dry Tortugas, affecting Key West just before sunrise. It
produced a daily-record 1.89" of rain at Key West International
Airport. April rainfall records for Key West date back to 1871.
