337 FNUS53 KLBF 052005 FWFLBF Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western and North Central for Nebraska National Weather Service North Platte NE 305 PM CDT Sun May 5 2024 .DISCUSSION... Winds will increase Sunday afternoon and remain strong through early Tuesday as a strong storm system tracks through the area. Though fuel status is in question due to recent rainfall and at least patchy green up, weather conditions will be favorable for fire weather concerns over the next 48 hours. Winds will peak around 40 to 50 mph for much of the Sandhills with gusts up to 35 mph elsewhere. Though humidity remains high through tonight, a strong cold front will drive expansive dry air into western Nebraska. This would promote critical concerns were fuels receptive. Concerns continue Tuesday with breezy west winds and dry air encompassing southwest Nebraska but concerns decrease towards midweek. This is largely due to temperatures continuing to trend cooler with forecast highs falling to below normal values. The below normal temperatures continue through the end of the week with temperatures likely to return to seasonable values by the following weekend.
